Wonderful Wildlife & Nature In Norfolk
In Norfolk there is such a diverse collection of wildlife that one can find something different here every time a visit is undertaken. From colorful birds in flight to otters in the rivers, this is truly nature at its best. Indeed, looking at the place on foot, cycle or by boat is possibly the best way to experience nature so get out there and experience this magnificent place.
Different Seasons
In autumn Norfolk is a sight to behold. With the trees changing color daily, the wildlife stocking up for winter and the nip in the air, this is a great time to get some much needed exercise while looking at some breathtaking sights en route. This is a haven for photographers too so don’t forget to take the camera along.
In winter time, the WWT Wenly or Pensthorpe Nature Reserve offer visitors a chance to see floodlit feeds for all the birds who reside there. Keep an eye out for pink-footed geese or waders which can also be found at the RSPB in Snettisham.
Spring brings with it all the promise of summer which is to follow and the walks and sights are just spectacular at this time of the year. All the trees and plants suddenly get that first flush of green and the spring flowers start to poke their heads above ground.
Long summer days are best spent along the river banks where wildlife really comes into bloom. The animals are producing their new arrivals and this is an excellent time to watch nature up close. Boats and canoes are on hire for those who want to get right into the heart of the Broads and it offers a chance to see some historic monuments too which may not be accessible by road.
For those who love something a little more manicured, the Plantation Garden in Norwich is a great place to see how the city has strived to keep this place beautiful. There is also the Norwich Riverside Walk too which takes in the waterfowl and reed beds en route. Those who would prefer to just walk can take in the Wherryman’s Way route from Norwich to Great Yarmouth. Bickling Park is also known for the colours in autumn and there are plenty of other places around this area too.
Thetford Forest – this magnificent place deserves a special mention since it has many miles of trails. It also has the biggest lowland pine forest in Britain. The visitor centre will give information on plants and wildlife to be found within and any events that will be occurring throughout the year. A great way to get in touch with nature for sure!
What Else Is There?
Well, just about anything really. Windmills that used to grind the wheat and barley, old monasteries being slowly reclaimed by nature and riverside pubs and guest houses to refresh people when they have had a hard day. Norfolk has much to offer even for repeat guests and this is one place that cannot be ‘done’ in one day.
