Anglers Paradise in East Anglia
As one would expect along any waterway system in the world, fishing is one of those pursuits which never seems to go out of fashion. Norfolk has it all really, from lake fishing to pits and rivers, or even sea fishing, Norfolk produces some of the finest catches in the country – not counting the ones that got away!
Fishermen, and women too, all seem to have stories to tell. Whether it is a day on the river in mid winter, or a hot summer’s day when the big catch was caught, avid fisherfolk will always be ready to talk about what they have done over the past weeks and months.
The Norfolk Broads has more than two hundred miles of rivers and waterways to fish in. Fish to be caught include pike, bream, roach and tench amongst others so this really is the best rod and line country around. Pike angling is extremely popular so expect to see those from abroad having a go here too.
Nar Valley
The Narborough Trout and Course Lakes offer crystal clear water in five lakes set amongst about twenty seven acres of some of the most beautiful scenery around. Although expert anglers love this spot, even the novice is welcome here too. For those who are true beginners there is tuition to be had so no one is left out of the fun. For those who have an unlucky day, fresh and smoked trout is available from the shop so anyone can claim that they had the best day!
The Coast
The Norfolk coast is a completely different ball game of course. The Wash, that square inlet on the map, usually has bass over the summer and there are several great spots all round the coastline to Walcott. Mackerel can be caught off Cromer pier with cod sometimes being caught off Mundesley. In fact, a great diversity of fish, from plaice to eels and sole can all be caught near Sheringham.
The Fens
In the Fens there are literally miles and miles of long straight canals that have many great fishing spots. Anglers can almost drive right up to where they want to fish from and some of the catch will include bream, tench and roach.
Sea Fishing
Tope fishing is a very popular sport for some anglers and offshore fishing is how this is done. Get on a day trip with a skipper who knows these waters and it is a clear bet that something will be caught during the trip. Some will also have seafood lunches too so make this a day to remember!
East Anglia In General
There is a whole array of fish to be caught in this area and most experts will always come back to fish these waters. They also like the smaller rivers and streams since these are largely ignored by the fishing fraternity. The Broads Authority has realized that there are a lot of disabled fishermen out there too so they are working to get in as many fishing platforms as possible to meet this growing need.
