Unforgettable Norfolk, Something For Everybody
Norfolk is one of those places in Britain that time seems to have been kind to. Not for this place the fast paced life which we are all getting tired of. Rather, this place seems to carry with it that old English charm so beloved of those who yearn for the good old days. This is not to say that Norfolk is not modern. On the contrary, it is full of up-to-the-minute facilities which should please everyone. It is the charm of the place that has been preserved without a doubt.
A Few Leisure Activities
For those who are on holiday or a short break, Norfolk really is the place to unwind. There is every kind of sport available along with some festivals, historic buildings and breathtaking scenery which will remain in the memory forever.
Sight Seeing
There is a whole host of historic buildings scattered around Norfolk. Take, for example, Sandringham, the Queen’s private residence. This building, made from sand colored stone, has been connected to royalty since 1862 when Queen Victoria purchased it. Since then, it has served four generations of this family and looks set to continue for many generations to come.
In the centre of Norwich lies the cathedral with its magnificent spire, second only to Salisbury Cathedral in height. This 900 year old building is a draw for the locals and visitors alike since there are many shops and restaurants nestled around it. In fact, this is a well known meeting point for those who wander off on their own explorations.
Along the many canals and rivers lie a host of different buildings to be visited. In fact, in some places one would be forgiven if they thought they were in Holland. Dotted along the canals are many windmills, still resplendent in all their glory, which used to grind up the wheat for bread in days gone by. Some are open to the public so stop off here and take a look at how life used to be.
Along these banks too are the remains of monasteries from William the Conqueror’s time. One can imagine what life must have been like back then and these are ideal spots for a little contemplation.
Walking Holidays
Along these same banks are long walks and short walks, depending on energy levels, for the family to get out and get physical. In fact, it is not many places that can boast country, coast and fen or forest walking all within easy distance.
A long walk along Peddars Way will take people from the coast to anywhere between nine miles to ninety three miles on the Norfolk Coast Path National Trail. Of course, it all depends on how much time is available, but this is a magnificent way to see nature at its best.
Along the route there are many watering holes from small family cafes to friendly pubs so there is no need to strain here! Add in canoeing, cycling, horse riding, golfing, bird watching and boating and one can see that there is something for everyone in this magnificent place.
